Been in Vancouver for a week. We've had a lovely time so far. Everyone's been so warm and welcoming towards us that we've felt right at home here.
We flew to Vancouver via Frankfurt and Montreal. All our flights were at least 30min late so we were in a real hurry to catch our connecting flights, but luckily made both of em on time even though it looked like (esp in Montreal) that we were gonna miss em. We travelled for about 20 hrs and at one point I almost had a panic attack cos I felt I couldn't sit still anymore. I wanted to get out of the freaking plane! But we made it to Vancouver in one piece.
Our boss-lady Evi was at the airport to pick us up and true to Canadian paparazzi-style she ambushed us with her camera. (Something we need to get used to during these 3 months..) She then took us to have a quick look at our new work place and then took us to our home for the 3 months - little apartment number 105. It's nice and cozy and we were happy to find a fridge full of food waiting for us.
The first week went by quickly. We met a lot of new people - residents and people who work in Finnish Home. So many faces and names. It's gonna take awhile for me to remember them all. We've also been learning the programmes they have for residents. We'll soon be leading them on our own (oh no..) so now is the time to familiarize ourselves with em. We have exercises, games, music etc. The residents really have plenty of things to do if they want to participate.
On our first weekend we went to downtown Vancouver to see what it's like. We were a bit confused and still jet lagged so only spent a couple of hours at a mall but I'm sure we'll get to see more later on. Now we're trying to plan a trip to Seattle for Easter which is this coming weekend, but at the moment I'm not sure if we'll have enough time to get things organized. We might end up staying home if things go the way they're going = too tired to plan/search/book things. I'll fill you in on things later. XX
PS. It's a small world: I managed to find a distant relative during my first week here! Weird..
